Project Overview
DASH Basketball has been developing players in Downingtown, PA and throughout Chester County since 2009. They offer competitive leagues, summer camps, and skills clinics for all ages and skill levels, from elementary-age players through competitive adult leagues. Their programs focus on building fundamental skills while fostering a positive, encouraging environment for players to grow their love of the game.
This was the third website iteration I’ve built for DASH Basketball since we began working together in 2014. After more than a decade of partnership, I’ve had the privilege of watching their organization grow and evolve.
The Challenge
The primary driver for this redesign was DASH’s expansion into Collegeville, PA. The site needed to accommodate two distinct league locations while maintaining a cohesive brand experience. The solution was a branched architecture with a landing page allowing visitors to select either DASH Downingtown or DASH Collegeville before exploring programs specific to their location.
For the Downingtown branch, I reorganized the program structure to improve navigation. With multiple offerings including three summer leagues (junior, youth, and men’s), a summer day camp, and seasonal clinics (Good Friday in spring and Black Friday in fall), parents were having difficulty finding the right program for their children. By reorganizing everything by season (Spring, Summer, Fall), the information hierarchy became much more intuitive.
On the backend, I developed a custom WordPress solution using Custom Post Types and Custom Fields to give the client an easy way to upload and manage league schedules and standings as PDFs. The simple options page allows them to keep content current without any technical knowledge, maintaining the site’s usefulness throughout each season.
For registration, I built a custom system combining Gravity Forms, WooCommerce, and a third-party payment gateway to handle most program signups. The Summer Leagues use a separate integration with TeamSnap to manage their registration and team management needs.
